The WestStreet History
WestStreet Recording was originally opened in a long, narrow warehouse building at 612 West St.
(thus the name) in Raleigh in the mid 1980’s. Starting from a dream, (and not much else),
owner/operator/engineer Dayna Wittman built the studio into one of the few serious recording
establishments available in the Triangle Area at the time.
The morning hours were for advertising, jingles, voice-overs and custom music for local business.
Afternoons would bring everything from rappers to a grandmother who couldn’t visit her grandchildren
but still wanted to read stories to them. (One of our greatest memories). In the evening came the
rock, country, jazz and gospel players. Bands, groups, duos, every type of music, every type of
talented artists and musicians... it was fabulous!
With the start of a family came the difficult decision that the long hours and late nights would be
too much for a rich family life, so in August 1990, the doors to WestStreet Recording were reluctantly
closed. Over the next 20 years we kept our hand in doing projects for friends. Now the kids are off
to college, so...
WestStreet Recording is back!
We’re back to what we love... Audio, Recording, Music ...and it’s better than ever.
